So... the other day I posted up some pictures of Lord Toxis in his freshly primed state. Well I can say now that he is painted... weathered... and varnished (both gloss and matte). Oh and he is sitting rather happily on top of his display plinth that a friend made for me. He is held down with magnets so that he can be entered into competitions just like the "Uber-Thister" from the other day.

So... I finished him up tonight after I got home from work... and damn... let me just say this... it is a great end to a bad night...

Also... to anyone else thinking of attempting this monster.... invest in some 2 part epoxy resin type glue... or find someone that works in the aircraft industry and get some ultra strong super glue from them... cause the wings are HUGE and they are very very awkward with their small mounting points for all the weight that they have to support.

Now I only have 2 more things to do for this model... and that is get the name plate made for the wood base and then get his custom foam cut... cause I am not about to take him ANYWHERE without knowing that he will get there safely. So he is going to get some custom foam from Battle Foam. Then he is getting packed away until Adepticon...

WIP post number 2... this is for my center piece of the competition circuit for this year. He has been labeled as my "Secret Project" for a little while now... but now that I have some paint on him and have some good pictures to show of my progress I am willing to finally let the cat out of the bag. He is a little on the big side... say... 9.5 inches tall and 10.5 inches wide at the widest point of his wings. He is... the Forge World Bloodthirster. I love this model very much. So far I am sitting at right around 15 to 20 hours into his paint job. His custom resin base that I made for him has about 6 hours of paint time.

Yep... I am back to posting up WIP shots of stuff instead of just the finished product. But I figured this would be a food way for me to document the progress on a couple Competition pieces that I am working on at the moment.

So first up is Plaguelord Toxis the Tyrant of the Golgothan Wastes. He is a Death Guard Terminator Lord that has some mild conversion work done to him to add to his nurglfication including the FW terminator conversion torso and shoulder pads. The Scythe is made from a scything talon from the Tyranid Warrior kit and the sorcerers staff in the Chaos terminator lord kit. Add in a little green stuff some drilling and some guitar strings... and there you go. I hope to start painting on him in the next week or so.

So... As I announced a few posts back I am going to be embarking on doing up some competition pieces and this is the first one that I want to officially announce is going to be used at Adepticon 2012. This is a Death Guard Terminator Lord that I am going to be entering into the single model category for 40k. The scythe is actually a scything talon I stole from a tyranid warrior. and the lord himself is a combination of the Terminator lord box and some Death Guard Terminator upgrade kits from Forge World. The base is one of the 40mm "Flow" bases that I sell. and some of the extra hoses and tubes are the "G" string off of my bass guitar. There is going to be a few more little things added to the base and the model... as the title says... this is all just WIP

This is the Herald of Nurgle that comes with the demon prince from Forge World. Dont really have a use for this piece in my Death Guard Project. But I cant leave a cool piece like this unpainted. So I figured what the heck... paint and I will keep in on the shelf... that is unless someone offers me some money for it.

You know... I REALLY love Forge World...

With that being said... Yes I have become addicted to the resin crack that Forge World supplies. This is my Demon Prince for my very Nurgle-y Death Guard Army. I am really happy with the way that this guy turned out especially with 3 days worth of work put into him. Trying more new techniques and delving deeper into my love affair with Reaper Master Series Paints. The Triad system that they have is AWESOME. It makes for easy color matching and blending to make great shadows and highlights. On this big brute I use the "Blood Triad" on the cloth part and I used the "Bone Triad" on the horn and claws. I also used the "Moldy Skin" triad on small parts of the flesh so it would look a little more dead in spots. I also used Vallejo Gloss Varnish on the whole model (except the cloth and metallic parts).

This piece is actually going into my personal collection. I don't think I will incorporate him into the competition roster of pieces unless something happens. One of these days I am going to have a display case here in the studio and I will have him in the case just cause he looks cool.

Okay... this is the first in a series of pieces that I am starting to work on for events like Crystal Brushes and Golden Demon. Yep... you just read that correctly. I am going to start working on stuff for painting contests and big ones at that. I have been saying since I got started that I am not a professional until I gain some kind of notoriety and win some awards. This being my first round of competitions I am just hoping to make it past the first round of cuts. That will be a big deal for me. If I truly make it all the way to the end and gain an honorable mention or even place... there are not enough "downers" on the face of the planet that will be able to bring me down from that level of joy. I want to make my mark on the painting community and I feel that now is my time.

So first up is the Nurgle Blight Drone from Forge World. I got this piece specifically for the sake of painting because I thought it looked cool and I wanted to paint one. I decided that I was going to add this to the pool of comp pieces when I got it done and I had several people tell me how much they really liked it. This piece marks a few firsts for me. the biggest one being that it is the first piece that I have every used a Gloss coat on instead of a matte. But I wanted the fleshy parts to look like they were slimy and covered with some sort of mucus. The rust effect was achieved by using the Rust Brown and Rust Orange weathering powders from Secret Weapon Miniatures. Justin... if you read this... I love your powders and I cant wait to get the whole set.

Now... what pieces do I have planned for competition purposes you ask... well... lets just say its going to be a heavy Chaos theme this year. And we will leave it at that.
