2013 was a great year for the studio. At times it was a little slow but it was still a great year. I painted a Circle Orboros army for a Journeyman League this past summer. There were also a few product reviews... the biggest one was the Lighting kits from Powered Play Gaming that were used in a Baal Predator for the Blood Angels project that is still in the works but has been shelved for the moment because other interesting projects have come along. And lets not forget the epic view count monster that was the Star Wars X-Wing review. There was also a start on a personal project that was the Convergence of Cyriss, which that project is still going on I have just been distracted by other fun stuff like painting that Kraken and doing assembly work on an Archangel.
Also the other big thing in 2013 was what I am referring to as the great GW purge, and in that Purge I have sold or traded off a Space Wolf army a 40k Ork army, a start to a CSM army, a Vampire Counts army, a Dwarf army, an Ogre Kingdoms army, and an Orc and Goblin army.
There are some other things that are still for sale from the studio like that Circle Orboros army that was painted this past summer, and the Forgeworld Bloodthirster.
2014 is going to be another great year for the studio. I already have some good commissions lined up for the start of the year, and IF I can ever get that blasted Circle army sold the big personal project of this year will be Trollbloods.
Man I have been looking for an excuse to say that on here for a while now... and now I have one. So my gaming buddy FINALLY picked up a Kraken to go with his Cryx army and man let me tell you this is a model that I have been wanting to paint for a long time. So I jumped all over this chance using the excuse that I painted his Wraith Engine as well.
Well I finally got him to agree to let me paint the monster and like the Wraith Engine I saw this as a perfect excuse to use another resin base from our friends over at Secret Weapon Miniatures. So I ordered in another Corpse Field base so that the Kraken has the same theme and feel as the Wraith Engine and I set to work. This model was a blast to work on, in fact I think it was by far the easiest one of these huge models from Privateer Press yet. BUT I have only done a small handful of them and have yet to work on any of them from Hordes (although I do have a Mountain King and an Archangel sitting here in the studio waiting on assembly).
This is it gang... The army so big it has taken me this long to get to counting it all up. You have seen me mention it several times as being for sale and not really telling you what all you get in the army. Well here is that list of stuff... I do warn you though... It's a LONG list.
Goblin Doom Diver
2 Giants
Fully painted and based Circle Orboros For Sale
and 2 sets of Tokens
Okay gang I am still trying to sell a fully painted competition level Forgeworld Bloodthirster that I painted up for Crystal Brushes at Adepticon 2012. This piece was getting a ton of looks at the event and was constantly turning heads and having people come back for second looks. Now he did not place in the event but he was put up for online voting. I think he would of done better had I entered him into a different category but I thought "Large Model" where he belonged because of his size, and that category was nothing but 54mm busts.
I have between 30 and 40 hours in painting this monster and both hands are magnetized for ease of storage and transport. I also have him mounted on a custom sculpted resin base that I made specifically for him.
Now that I have entered him into a couple paint competitions I have no other use for this piece... that is other than to collect dust. I really want to find him a good home where someone might actually play him in some games of either 40k or fantasy. I would like to get $300 for him but I am open to negotiations.
Hey fans,
I just wanted to through my monthly news update to let you all know how things were going here in the studio. And I can say things are about par for the course at the moment. There are still commission slots open on the calender that I would like to get filled up so IF you are curious about getting your models painted up just drop me an email to chris@2tonpainting.com to get a quote or schedule your commission.
Also in the news for the studio since this is the holiday season I decided to have a drop in rates for the holidays which is why they are not posted up on the commission pricing page at the moment. All price quotes are by email request only.
Now what have I been up to.... painting on some more Convergence of Cyriss models. And I picked up a couple unexpected Cryx commissions at the end of November. The first one was for Darragh Wraithe and the other one is for a Kraken that is going to be mounted on a corpse field base from our friends over at Secret Weapon Miniatures.
